Who can benefit from this?
Feeling "stuck?" Any unprocessed emotion can put us in "fight or flight" mode and we can't seem to move past it. Think of it as a "mental loop." A new perspective doesn't have to be painful. This is a very non-threatening, relaxing way to shift our thinking and break out of the loop. FBEAP/EAL is a recognized adjunct to mental health therapy. We have begun partnering with a licensed, Christian mental health counselor to offer professional "after-care" as needed. The activities we do are also a great way to get your team or organization to see where they can improve their "team thinking" and make a great team-building experience. We can confidently say this is for anyone who wants to experience the transformative powers of nature and horses in a faith-based environment.

Who is “Healing, Hope and Horses?”
Healing, Hope and Horses is located in Brodhead, Wisconsin, and is founded by a certified, faith-based equine assisted philosophy (FBEAP) facilitator, Judie Dullum. She is a Registered Nurse with many years of experience working at UW Hospital as well as Hospice and is well acquanted with life's transitions. Certified in 2021 by the founder and originator of the first, therapeutic faith-based EAL/EAP company, Elaine Davis, of Unbridled Faith. Healing, Hope and Horses came into being in order to share the joy and God-given nature of horses.
How does it work?
We use on-the-ground activities with horses to facilitate growth and learning opportunities that create connection and spark "a-ha" moments. These activities create metaphors that relate to our personal lives in a creative, non-threatening way. This non-threatening environment helps us see patterns and opportunities for change we hadn't noticed before.
Will I get to ride/can I take riding lessons?
We are not a lesson or riding facility. All activities take place on the ground.
Do I need to know anything about horses?
No. This is not about horsemanship. We have taken our horses to a downtown Rockford nursing home, surrounded by people and traffic. One of our horses has even been in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago! Our horses are conditioned to being around people. However, horses weigh over 1000 lbs. and as such, need to be treated with respect. You will be required to sign a release form for this reason and be able to verbalize understanding of how to stay safe.
How should I dress?
In closed-toed shoes and for the weather. Expect to be outside in the arena or in the our unheated event barn. Summer brings heat, humidity and flies, winter brings its own challenges. Rescheduling for weather is permitted but because there is shelter, it is often manageable.
Is there a charge?
We collect "donation-based fees." It is stated as such because all money collected, is poured back into Healing, Hope and Horses to pay our expenses and make improvements. Although we are a "business," we very much consider what we do to be a ministry.
